Every year in the spring, the local refuge burns portions of the refuge ... this is actually really good for the land ... and the wild life that live in the refuge. So just as the green is coming in, is a great time to come through. As I was capturing the forest as a whole, this stump caught my eye. Burnt black, for some reason at a distance it made me think of the Benedictine Monks of long ago who wore the black robes. Needless to say, a black & white photo was required of it ... I can just hear the Gregorian chants ...
