I have never seen a swan with a red head, but after some research, I found that both trumpeter and tundra swans, when feeding in waters that are high in iron oxide with show this type of coloring. Though this swan did not make any noise so I couldn't identify her by her call, by my research, I am guessing she is a trumpeter as they are known to stop for nesting and mating in our area more so than the tundra swans are.
