Description
Lake Winona
Winona Lake is located in Winona County, Minnesota. This lake is 307 acres in size. It is approximately 38 feet deep at its deepest point. Anglers can expect to catch a variety of fish including Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye.
Winona’s city park surrounding Lake Winona includes a beach, rose garden with gazebo, picnic sites, bandshell, dock and boat fishing, playgrounds, skating rink in winter, frisbee golf course, soccer and softball fields and five miles of walking/biking trails. Within Lake Park, by the bandshell, is Veterans Memorial Park.
Lake Winona biking and walking path is a popular destination for both visitors and local residents. The five-mile blacktop trail runs along the south side of the city and circles both segments of the lake through Lake Park. The route is flat and easy. This is a good place for families to ride or walk with children. Pedestrians, in-line skaters and cyclists use the path, so be alert. The trail provides excellent views of Lake Park, the surrounding bluffs and some of the city’s neighborhoods. Lake Winona trail is a great place to begin exploring the city and the area.
Canoe, kayak, liberty boat, sit-on-top kayak, stand-up paddle board, bike, snow shoe and ice skate rentals are available. You can also enjoy a good game of croquette, bocce or table tennis.
Fish are normally caught in the wild. Techniques for catching fish include hand gathering, spearing, netting, angling and trapping. Fishing may include catching aquatic animals other than fish, such as molluscs, cephalopods, crustaceans, and echinoderms. The term is not normally applied to catching farmed fish, or to aquatic mammals, such as whales where the term whaling is more appropriate.
According to United Nations FAO statistics, the total number of commercial fishermen and fish farmers is estimated to be 38 million. Fisheries and aquaculture provide direct and indirect employment to over 500 million people in developing countries. In 2005, the worldwide per capita consumption of fish captured from wild fisheries was 14.4 kilograms, with an additional 7.4 kilograms harvested from fish farms. In addition to providing food, modern fishing is also a recreational pastime.
